Aberdeen's 24 hours of volunteering

- Group

On Friday 20th May, Aberdeen Asset Management offices around the globe will be participating in 24 hours of continuous volunteering. Over 400 employees from 23 offices will be taking part in a range of activities to coincide with Give & Gain Day – the only global day of employee volunteering, organised by Business in the Community.

Volunteering will commence in Sydney, where employees will be taking part in numerous activities, including collecting surplus food for OzHarvest, Australia's leading food rescue charity. In Taipei, the office will be supporting a charity providing shelters to people living and affected by HIV/AIDS, whilst in Singapore more than 20 employees will be preparing and delivering food for TOUCH Home Care Singapore, a Meals-on-Wheels charity.

With further volunteering taking place in Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Indonesia the baton will then be passed from Asia to Europe, where employees from ten different offices will be volunteering their time to help community groups, schools and local charities. The ‘volunteering relay’ will finish in The Americas with employees from Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Stamford, Toronto and Sao Paulo bringing the day to a close.

Employees from Aberdeen’s London office will be volunteering at no fewer than nine different charities including Body & Soul, The Sick Children’s Trust and Bounce Back, amongst others. Those giving their time to Bounce Back, a charity focussed on training and employment of ex-offenders will be helping to create a new community sports facility at ‘Pop Brixton’, a pioneering new space showcasing the best and most exciting independent start-ups and businesses from Brixton and Lambeth.

Lynda Affleck, Aberdeen’s Head of Charitable Giving, says: “We are delighted so many employees from our global offices are getting involved in this initiative with the level of support increasing year on year. It is our third consecutive year of supporting Give & Gain Day and we recognise that volunteering provides an opportunity for employees to develop skills as well as being beneficial to the communities in which we live and work.”

Martin Gilbert, Aberdeen’s Chief Executive, says: “As a company we are committed to the communities in which we operate across the globe and we recognise our responsibility to make a positive impact in the places in which we live and work. I was delighted to take part in Give & Gain Day in Aberdeen today and I’m proud of our staff who participated around the world.”
